Biography:
Arnold (Arnaldur) Halldorsson was born in 1971 in Reykjavík, Iceland. He studied photography at the Bournemouth and Poole College of Art and Design, in England (1990-92) and the Parsons School of Design in Paris, France (1992-93). After completing his studies he started a freelance career.
Today Arnold´s work includes commercial, press and industrial photography for many of Iceland’s largest companies and advertising agencies. Along with his private practice he has (since 1997) worked as a part time press photographer at Morgunbladid, Iceland’s largest newspaper, on numerous interesting and challenging assignments. In recent years he has increasingly become involved in various assignments for the Icelandic photographic community. He is on the board of the Icelandic Photo Press Association and consults for the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture, planning photographic studies and exams.
Arnold has received many assignments from foreign TV and film crews and commercial photographers: photographing, assisting, planning, location scouting as well as organizing equipment rental (when needed). In addition, he has had the opportunity to shoot for many distinguished international companies such as Time Magazine, the BBC, Dwell, Outdoor Magazine and Reuters. He is currently Bloomberg Financial New´s exclusive photographer in Iceland.
One of Arnold´s main interests is organizing landscape photography workshops around Iceland, aimed at foreigners who like to explore and capture the country´s beauty and exceptional light – bright nights in the summer as well as the spectacular northern lights (aurora borealis) in the winter. Although Arnold is comfortable using conventional camera equipment, he now shoots almost exclusively on digital cameras, using Photoshop and Lightroom as essential tools.
Arnold has had private exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions. His photographs have frequently been nominated and received prizes in competitions both at home and abroad.
